A Piece of Paper
So it seems as though the Iraqi Constitution has in fact passed. Now, a lot of my friends continually told me that this constitution was not going to, and that that was a given. I stood my ground, and continued to say that I was pretty sure that it would in fact pass. Well I have been vindicated. 78% of the Iraqi people voted for the constitution, only 2 provinces getting 2/3's of their population (it required 3 counties with this percentage for the constitution to be vetoed).

I don't know if you read the Economist, but you should. We have a lot further to go until Iraq is stable enough for us to leave completely.
Funny, I don't remember this talented blogger ever mentioning leaving Iraq.
I am not talking about leaving right now, rather that the country is, for the most part, united. They like democracy, they want it, and it is the minority that is trying to bring it bring chaos to their current state. I don't know when we should leave....i know that their police need to be up and running fully first, until then, lets let the government they chose decide....(which has told the U.S. to stay for now...)
I remember there was this country led by a brutal dictator. Then we royally fucked him up and took a mighty dump inside his palace.
He also had a really outrageous bachelor's pad.
Then we told the country we were going to inject it with American-style democracy to protect notions like tolerance, religious freedom, and an open media.
Then we had to turn off the part of our brains that saw synagogues being razed (the dictator had not let anyone fuck with them for 30 years, but we let them have at it), women's rights being taken away, and the media turned into a raucous publicity machine.
"But they have a constitution! Huzzah!"
Dude, I am not syaing it is perfect. I am just saying it is better off than before. Womens rights are better than wehn Saddam was in power, and people have more freedoms, they can talk without fear of there toungues being cut out....
So yes, to have th country vote on the constitution is a big step. One that will show to lead the way of increased tolerance.
Remind me again why we went INTO Iraq? Constitution was the goal, you say?
wtf is wrong with u people, we already went in....the past is 20/20, the people you love for saying how bad the war in Iraq is, are the same people who voted for the war....
look, we already went in, now lets look at what good CAN come from it....
So why do we even have a voice in government then? I mean, if your contention is that our country can invade others on unfounded reasons...as long as there is some positive end...should we stop asking questions? Who gives a shit if there were no Wad’s, or links to Al Qaeda, or the uranium scare was just a bunch of nonsense. Maybe other countries should "just trust us" too. It really doesn't matter why we go to war then, as long as something positive comes out of it?
And you’re the political party that fights for increased accountability.
correction *WMD's
Dude, I am not saying that. I am saying, yes, we should from now on get better info so that we can go to war with correct pretenses. However, considering we already fucked up, stop bitching and get over it. I am not saying you should not question the government," I am saying to stop being part of the problem, and start being part of the solution.
This is the party with you guys, you are all about whining about the current situation, with no answer to it. You are utopian, and you sacrafice the lives of the oppressed, on your alter of ideology.
So, what is the moral of the story? Shut the fuck up unless you have something contructive to say assholes....
Don't be such a bitch, GP. Was it Locke who marvelled at how much more clearly children thought than adults?
Drugs.
Dude, no reason to get upsett.
All i'm saying is that instead of having better information before going to war next time...how about we have a goal of NOT going to war (unless of course justified). Yes, I understand that Iraq needs to be salvaged from the major fuck up it became. But I think one of the most important lessons from this experience shouldn't be to "pick up the pieces and find the good that can come of it", but be SCEPTICAL the next time around and not follow so blindly.
And that's why we bitch and complain. NOT because it's going to be a solution to this situation (Bush dug this shit hole for himself, he can get out himself) but because NEXT time we will have influenced people to question very carefully when and if war is justified.
